I have a love/hate relationship with the last week of school before break. First, I am extremely excited every year, as I love Christmas . . . and knowing I am going to see my family soon just makes me so happy! But on the other hand, the kids are crazy and excited, too . . . and this week is one of the hardest weeks to be a teacher. Don't get me wrong, I love the holiday spirit . . . but when you have only two weeks of class left after Christmas break, and you have x, y and z to get through before then in order for the students to be adequately prepared for the next year of French . . . phew, it's tough. All I want to do this week is eat sweets, watch Christmas movies and drink cocoa . . . unfortunately, that is not what the state of VA thinks of as a Standard of Learning for French class . . . bummer.

So here I go . . . 5 more days of craziness. Then it is off to MI. Our last Christmas as a couple . . . kind of bittersweet.

A new craze is hitting the world of photography, and I am totally up for joining it! Photographers Chris+Lynn, from the awesome town of Vancouver, started a can drive that is totally awesome.

So, here's how it works, for the next 7 days, for each comment left on any post (as far back as you want to go) I will donate a can of food to my local food bank!

Thanksgiving Break

Phew, so we are finally back from our travels. We left Wednesday around 12 to head to MI to spend the holiday with my family. It is about a ten hour drive for us, which was made a bit longer by the frequent stops that pregnancy requires - hehehe.

While we were there, our schedule was crazy, but it was great to see so many members of our family. We had Thanksgiving dinner with Michael's extended family for the first time (and his parents came down from Ironwood, so we were happy to see them, too). From there, we headed to my grandparents' house, which is the scene of the traditional Creagh family Thanksgiving meal. My family gave me a baby shower, which was wonderful (will post pics as soon as I get a chance to upload them), and we got to see everyone that was still around after dinner.

Friday morning, we had breakfast with Mom, Thanksgiving dinner with Dad and a baby shower that my step-sisters put on for me (again, pics to come).

Saturday, we met Michael's parents for breakfast, had Thanksgiving dinner with Mom (Chinese Thanksgiving - a new tradition, I think) and then went to Dad's to say bye.

We got up at 5:30 this morning to hit the road, hoping to beat the traffic. Well, we did, until the Pennsylvania border, and just as always, the turnpike was just horrendously backed up, so we took a detour. Well, what should have taken us about 4 hours to get through, in the end took us almost 7 . . . needless to say, 12 hours of driving was not our idea of a fun Sunday afternoon. But, we are home, the cat is thrilled to see us, and we are filled with food and lots of good memories of yet another holiday!

Can't wait to see what's in store next!

Baltimore

A few weeks ago, I spent the weekend with my dear friend, Emily in Baltimore. It was chilly and rainy, but we managed to keep ourselves busy with shopping and pedicures - some of my favorite girly things to do!

One of the best parts of the trip, was getting to meet her soon to be adopted kittens! A litter of 5 kitties are in a foster home until they are old enough to be taken home, but Jumanji and Katie were visiting with their soon to be mommy for the weekend - and they are just precious!

I came home with a bunch of little scratches, but it was totally worth it. They are just adorable! :) Too bad kittens have to grow up and become cats! :)

Times are a changing

Many of you have grown familiar with the TMV Photo logo. I had a wonderful designer put together the logo and my business marketing materials as I started this company, but as the years have passed, I have found my business to evolve into something more. So, in the spring, after our little girl is born, I will be relaunching Toute Ma Vie Photography, complete with new logo, website and some great new offerings. I am excited about this move, and have found a great designer to put together this new look for me - http://www.threeheartblog.com/- TracyLynn has been great so far, and I cannot wait to see what she comes up with! Any of you that are starting out, or looking for a new look, she has been so easy to work with - you will just love her!

The Big Announcement

This may come as a big shock to some of you, while I know that some of you already know. But we are expecting a little baby girl in February 2009! I have waited until things kind of slowed down to make this a public announcement, but now is the time to share with you.

We found out we were pregnant on a trip to France, Spain and Italy with some of my wonderful students this past summer. I had been feeling sick and it just seemed strange to me, so Michael went out to a pharmacy in Barcelona and tried to explain to the pharmacist that we needed a pregnancy test. Lo and behold, it was positive. I remember that moment very well . . . we were surprised and excited. I cried.

So we spent the next week together in Italy, the kids flew home with another chaperone, and we started dreaming about our little bundle of joy. As we came home, we went to the docs and confirmed that we were, in fact, preggers, and have been waiting and watching since then.

We have had two ultrasounds, and both have shown her to be a little princess, so we are counting on modern technology to have gotten that right (though, we are not painting the room pink - hehe).

We are due on February 17, which means that I am currently 27 1/2 weeks pregnant - 2/3 of the way through. I have been really lucky thus far, no morning sickness, no throwing up, no horrible weight gain . . . this little one is very active, so I find myself really tired out all the time (since sleep is not as much of an option as it was before - thanks to her kicking).

I promise to keep updates on here as things progress, but felt like it was time to make the formal announcement. Cannot wait for you all to meet her!

Betty & Sam: Engagement

So a few weekends ago, Michael and I drove over to Frederickburg, VA to spend some quality time with Betty & Sam at Belvedere Plantation. I met Betty and Sam through past clients, Gail and Mike, who were married last fall (basically a year ago - well, 11/10). Anyway, this couple is just a sweet and fun couple. Betty has spent many fall days at the Belvedere Plantation, so this was a perfect place to get some engagement pictures. We had a blast (even though I was kind of under the weather). They were so willing to be goofy and fun, and we got some great shots. So, here are a few from the day! I just couldn't narrow it down, so there are definitely more than normal . . . can't wait til their wedding in April!

New Blogging Resolution: With prizes for you!

Woah, I have been bad at blogging. It's insane how busy things have gotten around here. So, here's my goal, to blog at least 2 times per week until the end of the year (Dec 31). Starting each week on Monday at 12:01 a.m. (EST) through Sunday night at 11:59 p.m. (EST), I will put at least two posts up. So, here's the catch, if you actually catch me not blogging twice in a week, you are going to win a prize. We will start with a Starbucks giftcard. Niki & Matt: 6/7

Yesterday, I had the honor of photographing a wedding for two amazing people. Niki and Matt got married at the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley in Winchester, VA. As is the case in most weddings, these two are so obviously in love that I just know that their marriage will be long and healthy and full of wonderful moments and memories. They are just perfect for each other : Niki is kind of zany and so much fun, while Matt is a wonderfully patient an laid-back kind of guy. They compliment each other so well! The day was the hottest day of the year, yet they just smiled and almost seemed to not feel the heat (trust me, I felt it - phew, it was hot). I also had the privilege of having the great Susan Solo shoot with me for the day! She was so much to hang out with!!!!

Kerry & Dan : May 31

Well, it's been a while . . . I kind of disappear during soccer season. Yesterday, I had the privilege of photographing Kerry and Dan's weddding. It was a beautiful day (even with the rain) and a beautiful ceremony. Kerry looked stunning . . . and over all - it was a great experience. The reception was at The Belmont in Fredericksburg, which, if you are looking for a great location for a reception, I would absolutely recommend them! Here are a few photo highlights from the day! I LOVE California! It is amazing here . . . the weather is great, the people are great, it's awesome . . . We are in the midst of a few speakers, and have had some great sessions. Happy Valentine's Day to you

Okay, so I apologize for being such a bad blogger. I just have been so insanely busy. It's crazy. I just returned from a French Club trip to New York, and tomorrow I will be heading out to an awesome photography conference in Napa, CA with my buddies from OSP. I cannot wait. Trust me, there will be pictures soon. I know, I need to post a lot of things . . . I am so behind.

But for today, I just wanted to take a moment to wish each and every one of you a wonderful Valentine's Day. I am so excited to hear from some of you in the next few weeks as you celebrate your engagements! :)

I am so excited. I got to school this morning and on my desk was a box . . . from ProFlowers! I got 18 long stem, red roses, and they are GORGEOUS!!!! I feel so loved! :)

Meredith and Josh: Engagement

Back in January, we spent a very cold Martin Luther King, Jr. Day with Meredith and Josh down on the Potomac for their engagement session. They are getting married in March and I am so excited for the opportunity to work with them. Josh is a Marine, and their wedding will be filled with many of the traditions that come from his line of work. It's going to be amazing.
So here are a few pictures from the day. Can you tell that it was about 30 degrees (if we were lucky)?

What a day

Okay, so in the rush of getting ready for Allen and Heather's wedding, I totally forgot to grab my camera . . . so no pictures (and me getting all dressed up and girly with no way to document it . . . ). The ceremony was beautiful. Heather looked amazing in her dress, and they were obviously so happy. It was wonderful. So, we are tired and off to bed. Look for some albums to be posted soon. I am busy, busy working on getting them done from the fall weddings!

Tomorrow

Tomorrow I actually get to be a guest at a wedding. It doesn't happen much (well, in comparison to the weddings where I am working), so I will certainly be enjoying relaxing and having a good time. I love shooting weddings, but when you are shooting, you have to be so tuned into the flow of the day that you sometimes miss really feeling the joy of the celebration . . .

The wedding we are going to be attending is that of one of my closest friends from VA. Allen and I taught together, and then both being soccer coaches, became quick friends. Though we don't see him very often (he's moved jobs), I still consider him one of those to call in a bind type people. You know, your ICE list . . . Michael and I are so excited for him and Heather (his soon to be bride). He's just a great guy, and deserves to have the happiness that sharing your life with someone can bring! So yeah, bring on the sappy waterworks tomorrow . . . I am so silly.

All right, well, I plan to take a few pics, just for fun (maybe even with just the point and shoot). Gotta have some memories! :)

Happy 2008 everyone! I have to say, I am personally glad that 2007 is over and am looking forward to the new adventures that 2008 will bring. So, never fear, we will not be robbing you, or anyone you know . . . ha. I know, how silly are we?

Merry Christmas

We are on the road! I am actually updating from my blackberry . . . I had to take a moment to wish you all a very Merry Christmas! I feel so blessed to have been a part of your moments this year. So take a moment, tell someone that you love them . . . and know that you all have touched my life in more ways than you will ever know.

Also, I could use some good thoughts being sent my way. Earlier this week, I had a bit of an accident. I was carrying a box of presents and slipped and fell down the entire flight of stairs. I am okay overall - just some bruised ribs and a bruised ego. But we are in the middle of a 16 hour car ride - not very easy with painful ribs. So any good thoughts you could send would be great! We will return on 1/1 so any orders placed from now until then will be submitted when we return.

Have a wonderful holiday season! We wish you and your families tons of joyful moments and can't wait to hear what is happening in 2008!

Erika & Kuodjou : Engagement Session

Okay, so I admit, I am behind again on the blogging, and there will be a big wedding post coming up soon from a recent wedding! But first, this past weekend, Michael and I went and hung out in Georgetown with Erika and Kuodjou for their engagement shoot. What a fun and genuinely nice couple. You know how you meet people and you just know that they are for real . . . these guys are definitely up that alley. Just really nice, really awesome people! So, here are few from there session. I love shooting in Georgetown! (Did I mention that he is a Marine? Awesome, huh?).

Jolene and Chris: Sept 15, 2007

Well, like I said, I am behind on blogging. And I just have to share these from a few weeks ago. Jolene and Chris were married at Old House Vineyard in Culpeper, VA. It was so exciting for me to be shooting a wedding at a vineyard! Totally a photographers dream! Anyway, Shelby Martin, of Shelby Leigh Photography was gracious enough to help me out - and she got some great shots. I always love shooting with her, as I feel so at ease - she's got a great eye!

I had such a great time with you guys! Can't wait to put the album together! :)

Anne & David: a preview

Oh my goodness, I really need to catch up on my blogging, but couldn't resist a few from this last weekend! What a fun wedding! Anne and David got married this weekend in the Fredericksburg area. I had gotten to know them through their "love story session" in May - what fun people they are! I have to plug the engagement sessions a bit here, as it really does help us to get to know each other, which makes the wedding day easier for all involved! When we took their engagement pictures, we just kind of wondered through Georgetown and found places that were scenic - and they wanted to do the same thing for the wedding. Most of their formals were taking at the Kenmore in Fredericksburg - which was a perfect location. Plus, they had left about 90 minutes for their pictures to take place, which gave us so much time to work and get some really fun shots! Their reception followed at Brock's at in Fredericksburg, which was had a very intimate feel to it - and was a great end to a beautiful day. I had the great privilege of having Laura Siivola shoot with me for this wedding. She was amazing, and got some really awesome shots! Plus, she's a great person! So, if you are reading this in the AZ area, call her up! You will have some beautiful images!

Okay, so here are few from the day.

They had no problem being snuggly that day! So, we got some really great romantic shots!

I can't remember what was said here, but Anne just has such a contagious laugh. We all were laughing . . . and I felt this picture really captured how fun these guys are (and their bridal party was a hoot, too).

Isn't she just gorgeous? I am so blessed with beautiful brides.

The guys were looking handsome themselves - and trying to act like the Soprano's . . . not sure we quite captured that look, but still - they look macho.

When we got to downtown Fredericksburg, there was a trolley car parked on the street. The driver was more than happy to let us use it for a few fun shots. I love the flare in this one - and the way David is nuzzling Anne's shoulder.

And, I could not resist but post a few of Laura's amazing images up. There are so many, and I didn't even have to do anything to either of these - straight out of the camera. She rocks!

I had such a blast, guys. Thank you so much for letting us be a part of your special day. I hope you enjoy St. Lucia, and I can't wait to hear what the future brings for you!

Carol & Anthony - September 1, 2007

Carol and Anthony were married over the Labor Day weekend in good ol' Front Royal! I had so much fun at this wedding! The ceremony was at St. Johns the Baptist Church downtown (beautiful stained glass windows there) and the reception was at the Shenandoah Valley Country Club. Enjoy a few of their pictures!

They did a "cake pull," which is apparenly a southern tradition. I had never heard of it, but maybe that is part of being from Michigan. Anyway, each bridesmaid pulls a charm from the cake, and the charms all have a meaning (like who will be the next one to be married). It was really interesting, and a definite first for me.

Catching Up: Amanda Cogar - senior

Amy (or Ameh as her friends call her) is a senior this year at WCHS (though she won't really be taking classes there). She is such a cool girl and I had a blast hanging out with her. One of the great things about her is that she is unique and totally embraces that. She's all about being herself - and this first picture is totally an "Amy" look!

We spent the session mostly up in Winchester - and had a blast!

Once again, I am behind on my blogging, but I just couldn't pass up this opportunity to share some crazy stuff about myself! Brandie and John were married at The Historic Longbranch this past weekend. It was an extremely hot day, but it turned out to be just right for the ceremony and reception. It was just so much fun! So, here are the first few pics . . . more to come!

Carol and Anthony's Guestbook

So, recently, I have switched labs - to White House Custom Color, and one of the things that they offer are these "press-printed books" that serve great for Guestbooks or Senior Brag books. They are made sort of like an album - and rock my socks off! Being that Toute Ma Vie Photography is always looking for something new - I decided to offer a few of these this year.

So Carol and Anthony, who are getting married on September 1, 2007, are getting one for their guests to sign. It took me a while to get the design thing down - using a new program has it's pluses and minuses - but I have succeeded! :)

Heather - senior 2008

It is that time of year . . . senior pictures are in full-swing. Heather was my first of three sessions this week . . . yikes. After spending Sunday with her brother, Anthony and his fiancée Carol, it was great to hang out with Heather and her mom, JoAnn. Sally & Michael's wedding

What a gorgeous day we had yesterday - so beautiful. Sally and Michael were stunning, the church was stunning . . . the whole day was just stunning. Sally was one of the most relaxed brides I have seen, and she looked amazing. It was such a joy to share this day with them, and their families - many of whom traveled from Japan to be a part of the special day. I will admit to getting a little choked up during Michael and Sally's toast to their family. What a special group of people. My Michael and I are off to Michigan for a week, but before we left, I wanted to at least give you a taste of yesterday . . .

On Monday, Michael and I went and hung out with Sally and Michael - who will be getting married tomorrow!!! They live in Japan, so we got to squeeze in the engagement session while they are here for the wedding. Luckily, WHCC rocks and got me my cards that display the website of their pics in time - they rock!

Anyway, we did the session at Georgetown University. It was so beautiful there - what a great location! They are such a cute couple, and I cannot wait for tomorrow!

My fabulous ShootSac came today. They are a line of camera bags designed by the one and only Jessica Claire who is an awesome photographer! Anyway, I have been waiting for these bags to be released and then waiting for it to come, and I was so excited to open the box this morning!

The Waurio's and the terrible, horrible, no-good, very bad vacation

Ah, our vacation to paradise . . . what a comedy of errors. You know the book Alexander and the terrible, horrible, no-good, very bad day? It felt something like that. Everything that could go wrong, seemed to . . . okay, it really wasn't that bad! :)

Here is where we were:

The Park Royal in Cancun, MX was a wonderful resort - beautiful, friendly service . . . we just had a hard time getting there. We were supposed to arrive on Friday at 12:00, but after being bumped off of our flight, and re-routed through Miami, we arrived at 9:30 at night . . . and . . . they lost my luggage. Normally, I am a pretty smart traveler - bringing extras in my carry-on. This time, however, we were flying direct (less of a chance of losing bags), so I didn't pack anything else . . . and then we ended up on two flights, with two different airlines, resulting in 1 lost bag, and 1 stinky and upset customer = me.

Finally, Saturday afternoon, my bag arrived. I was so happy to see it!

Saturday, we got massages - and go figure, now I probably need to see a chiropractor . . . so instead of surfing or scuba diving, we spent most of our time doing this:

And then . . . it happened. We got sick. Just like everyone else, we had been careful of the water - despite what the signs had said around the hotel about the water being consumable . . . and yet, we still fell ill . . . *sigh*.

On Tuesday, we managed to get onto the beach one last time, still sick, but trying to enjoy the last few minutes of vacation.

We also gave in and wanted to eat some American food - incase it was the food that was making us sick . . . so we went across the street to a mall and ate at Chili's. The mall itself was pretty sweet - outdoors, lots of shops, really nice and high-end. Here it is:

And then, Tuesday, we finally got a flight that was on-time and that we had seats on, and left for home . . . a bit wiser and certainly not planning to visit Cancun anytime soon. At least we enjoyed the time together - right!?! :)

Okay, overall - not a horrible trip - just a comedy of errors, and somethings to laugh about. Although, they are probably much more funny to us than to anyone else! Adios, Mexico!

Memorial Day weekend was a busy one! I spent Monday afternoon cruising the town with Tori to get some pics in before it rained! She is such a sweet girl, and is very involved in the school. I give this girl props - she was in the cheer uniform in 95 degree heat - phew.

Since Toute Ma Vie Photography loves to photograph families, as well as weddings and seniors, we took a Saturday a few weekends back to photograph a few of our favorite families!

Amanda and Dan have a handsome son, Thomas, and even though we only had 15 minutes (due to a big thunderstorm cramping our style), we got some great pics.

So it will be a busy weekend chez Waurio! We are heading home to MI for a few different events. My dad has finally retired after many years of hard work and dedication. We are really proud of him and wish him well in his old age! :) (okay, so he is really not old, but still). Michael's cousin Chris is marrying his long-time girlfriend Krystal -- and we are really excited to go be a part of that, also. I am planning on taking the camera - so look for some pics when we return.

How do you relax?

Okay, being a busy person (which I am) . . . I find that I have to search for ways to relax. First, if you know me, you know that I teach, coach, photograph, live, love, etc, etc . . . so I am busy. It is hard for me to find any moments at all to myself, and when I get them -- I stink at just sitting back and relaxing. So, I figured, I would get some advice from you all!

So -- what do you do to relax?

(My answer normally includes my television and good show).

Well, we will not be around this weekend - as we are heading out to the beach! Yay! This is one of my favorite weekends of the year. My travel team goes down to the beach to play in the Rush Cup! We all stay together at a hotel, with the boys team, and hang out, have fun and play some soccer! :) It's an awesome time.

Well, it was a busy weekend in the world of Toute Ma Vie Photography. First, on Saturday, we shot the South Warren Fire Hall Honorary Chief Beauty Pageant. It was amazing to see the girls from this area so confidently representing themselves and their community. I was moved . . . definitely. What a great group. Congrats to all the winners!

Today, I went out with a very sweet girl to take some senior pics. We headed to Sherando Park and Old Town Winchester. Stay tuned for some great pics -- she is just such a cutie! So, now it is off to the editing board . . . anyone else do anything fun this weekend? :)

New York City!!!!!

So, Sunday through Tuesday, I took a group of my students to New York City to experience "Les Miserables" and the cultural experiences of a big city. We had such a good time. Here is the trip, in pictures . . .

First, in our town, the local paper will publish pictures of people who take it on vacation with them. So we took "The Daily" to NYC . . . (I'm in the WC hat)

I always love the "up" pictures. I have a ton of these from travels in Europe. It makes me feel really short though (yeah, I know that I am).

I am not sure what church this is, but there were tons of beautiful churches in every part of town that we visited. Just walking along, and there would be this beautiful building amidst the sky scrapers. It was awesome.

Okay, this is the funniest sign in all of NYC. Seriously, can you feel the sarcastic tone? I just laughed and laughed.

I wish we had gone here . . . too bad I don't have that much money.

Lots of Times Square pics . . . I love how busy it is - and how bright it is at night. It just embodies the busy-ness of NYC. We spent a good amount of time here -- plus seeing a comedy show at the HA! comedy club. If you are ever there, and want to see a good show -- go there. Seriously, my stomach hurt from laughing so much. It is on the north side of Times Square, just keeping walking on Broadway uptown -- it's on a road to the right (I think right near the Hershey store).

Finally, a few pics of the World Trade Center site . . . as everyone says, the sheer size of it is amazing. I just cannot believe that there are people in the world that think something like crashing a plane into a building is a good idea. I will never understand hate.

Christmas with the Halsey family

First, a bit about the story . . . every year, my mom's family has a large Christmas party. Other than weddings, it is pretty much the only time all year that we get to see each other. Anyway, being in Virginia, Michael and I don't get to go anymore (we have to teach through the week right before Christmas and normally this is on the weekend in the teens). Anyway, this year, I found a really cheap flight and flew home to surprise everyone -- even my mom. My dad picked me up at the airport (my parents are divorced) and dropped me off at the mom's. It was so much fun . . . I walked through the front door and said, "is there room at this party for one more?" My mom was sooooo excited. Plus, my 93 year-old Grandma was there, and I felt like it was really important to see her. It felt so good to be there, and a fun surprise on top of that.
